Grab you tickets now for the final 2 weekends of “Sweeney Todd” as only Cabrillo Stage can deliver. This compelling, often thrilling, story will keep you on the edge of your seats. Many consider it Stephen Sondheim’s masterwork with his best music and lyrics ever.
Now running through Sunday, August 10th , “Sweeney Todd” tells the infamous tale of an unjustly exiled barber (Todd) as he returns to London seeking vengeance against the unscrupulous judge who framed him and tore his young family apart. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the

integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun!
Artistic Director Andrea L. Hart has stepped into the role of Director for this remarkable show. Andrea believes “stories change us, move us, FEED us…and we need that… maybe more than ever. We are being fed so much through our phones, computers, TVs, radio… The theatre offers us a place to slow down”. Music and Vocal Director Daniel Goldsmith leads the magnificent 20-piece live orchestra with skill and passion as they play Sondheim’s beautiful, complex score. Melissa C. Wiley’s choreography helps convey feelings that enhance the music and lyrics.
A team of experts brilliantly recreates 19th century London. Scenic Designer Skip Epperson and Technical Director Marcel Tjioe have created and adorned the stage to give just the right look and feel and Lighting Designer Richard Fong expertly helps set the right mood – from gloomy to comical and from murderous to downright frightening. Costume Designer Lidia Hasenauer, Sound Designer Skyler Kirby, and Prop Designer Natalie Silva work their magic to complete Director Andrea Hart’s vision of a tale set in another time and another place that resonates with our current times.

Ms. Hart wants theatre to entertain us and give us opportunities for reflection and catharsis. She states, “I am in awe of how “Sweeney Todd” explores class warfare and the corroding influence of bitterness, all while singing about pies! I can’t wait to share it with you!”
