The Capitola-Aptos Rotary Club is celebrating 60 years of scholarships, inclusive playgrounds and fundraising for charities both local and international.

Since its founding in 1965, over 250 members have served the communities of Aptos, Capitola and Soquel for 60 years.

The club has raised more than $4 million for a range of causes, including scholarships and fellowships to over 250 students at Cabrillo College and UC Santa Cruz. The group has also sponsored 150 high school students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership camp.

Rotary Club members have focused their efforts on making playgrounds more inclusive, including funding Leo’s Haven in Live Oak, Willowbrook Park in Aptos and Treasure Cove in Capitola.

Capitola-Aptos Rotary also funds local nonprofits that fight hunger, assist older adults and provide shelter for people who are homeless. The club has funded schools and health centers in Africa and South America, with members going abroad to construct and refurbish community development projects.

On Thursday, Nov. 13, the club will host a 60th anniversary celebration luncheon, starting at 11:30 a.m. at Seascape Golf Club, located at 610 Clubhouse Dr., Aptos. The event will feature guest speaker County Supervisor Kim De Serpa, as well as stories from past and present members. Registration is $60 and includes a buffet lunch, tickets for door prizes and a glass of sparkling wine.
