Former first lady and longtime educator Jill Biden is coming to Santa Cruz to speak at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
“As a lifelong educator … the wealth of experience through her unique perspective makes this event incredibly enriching and impactful for the Santa Cruz community and beyond,” said Santa Cruz Warriors chief operating officer David Kao.
In addition to having been first lady while her husband, Joe Biden, was president from 2021 to early this year, Jill Biden has over 40 years of teaching experience, is a bestselling author and served as second lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 during the Obama-Biden administration. During her four years as first lady, Biden focused on supporting military families, advocating for educational opportunities and helping cancer research via the Biden Cancer Moonshot as well as women’s health through launching the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research. Biden maintained her career as a professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College throughout her time in the White House, becoming the first presidential spouse to maintain an independent career while serving.
The event will mark the second visit to Santa Cruz County by one of the Bidens in less than three years; President Joe Biden toured the county, with stops in Watsonville, Capitola and Aptos, in January 2023 in the wake of storms that devastated the area early that year.
Tickets for this event go on sale to the general public starting Thursday at 9 a.m. and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. Early access to tickets will be available through exclusive presale events on Wednesday. Those interested in presale access are encouraged to sign up for Warriors Insider.
