  • A hit and run crash happened on northbound Highway 1 at 41st Avenue in Capitola / Soquel today. No one was hurt, but the vehicle may have damage on the driver’s side. Authorities were notified and a be-on-the-lookout was issued.

  • Southbound Highway 17 in the Eastside / Live Oak area is facing closures for asphalt paving. The closure is expected to end at 5:01 p.m. tomorrow.

  • A single vehicle was involved in a hit and run crash with no injuries today at 6:54 p.m. at 1231 Buena Vista Dr in Watsonville / Pajaro. The crash involved a major rollover and temporarily closed lanes near Whiskey Hill for vehicle recovery. All lanes were later reopened, and the incident was classified as a hit and run with no injuries.

  • A fatal single-car crash happened today around 11:23 a.m. on northbound Highway 17 just north of Vine Hill in Scotts Valley. The car was seen speeding, swerving, and tailgating before it left the road, overturned, and caught fire. The fire spread to nearby trees, and the driver, who was alone in the car, did not survive. Emergency crews closed lanes and handled the scene, and the coroner was called.

  • There is a one-way traffic closure on Highway 9 at Prospect Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley because of emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 3:59 p.m. tomorrow.

Long-term projects

These have been going on for a while, but are still worth keeping in mind.

  • A single lane will be closed on Sims Rd and La Madrona Drive from Brook Knoll Road to 600 La Madrona Drive in the Eastside / Live Oak area from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. due to a pipeline project by SCWD and SLVWD. Traffic control will be in place, and the closure is expected to last until February 2026.

  • Richmond Drive and Portola Drive at 24th Avenue in Eastside / Live Oak are experiencing traffic delays and lane closures because of the Rodeo pump station upgrade project. The closure started on February 25 and usually happens from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There were special construction hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 12-13. The project is expected to last through September 30, weather permitting.
