The northbound Highway 1 on-ramp at 41st Avenue in Soquel will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Oct. 28-31, to accommodate continued work on north- and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Highway 1 between the 41st Avenue and Soquel Drive interchanges.
The current phase of construction, according to the California Department of Transportation, includes the widening of the center median, landscaping and construction of pedestrian access to the new pedestrian bridge in the area.
Additionally, sidewalk construction on Soquel Avenue between 17th Avenue and Chanticleer Avenue will result in intermittent daytime flagging closures for vehicles on Soquel Avenue from Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. This work is scheduled to take place through early December.
The sidewalk will be modified to provide access to the new Chanticleer Avenue bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing. Detour signage will direct pedestrians on Soquel Avenue around the work area via Rodriguez Street.
The bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue will provide an alternative route for bicyclists and pedestrians currently using the Soquel or 41st bridges to cross over Highway 1. The overcrossing will be lighted, 12 to 14 feet wide and will incorporate aesthetic treatments consistent with the visual character of the corridor and the adjacent community.
The contractor for this $29 million project is Granite Construction of Watsonville.
