A 2.7-mile paving project that starts Monday and won’t be complete until Oct. 30 is expected to cause traffic delays for periods of time during the day and overnight on Highway 9.

Crews from Granite Construction, which was awarded the $2.4 million contract for the project, will be grinding off the top layer of asphalt of Highway 9 between Lazy Woods Road in Felton and California Drive in Ben Lomond and replacing it with a “rubberized hot mix asphalt.”

According to the California Department of Transportation, seven curb ramps within that stretch of Highway 9 will also be reconstructed to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

While crews are working, traffic will be intermittently one way for stretches of road. The DOT also warned that people living near the project might have to deal with “noise and vibration.”

Overnight paving work won’t begin until mid-September.
