In Photos: Hundreds of volunteers give Santa Cruz County trails a makeover
More than 500 volunteers worked on more than 20 trails across Santa Cruz County Saturday for the third annual National Trails Day.
More than 500 volunteers rolled up their sleeves on Saturday to clear brush, repair erosion, and improve access across more than 20 trails in the region.
The third annual National Trails Day was part of a nationwide initiative led by the American Hiking Society. The local event was organized in partnership with area nonprofits, including Santa Cruz Mountain Trail Stewardship (SCMTS).
“It’s all about making our outdoor spaces more accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” said Kristen Hart, who served as a “volunteer hype captain” with the trail stewardship. She noted that volunteers even worked to clean local beaches.
The day ended with an after-party at Woodhouse Blending & Brewing in Santa Cruz featuring more than 20 local vendors and artists and live blues music by local band Squid Row.
