In Santa-must-have-been-busy news, the Holiday Lights attraction at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds will have a special guest who presumably does not have a belly like a bowlful of jelly. On Thursday, Dec. 5, the fairgrounds welcomes Krampus to the Holiday Lights.
Who is Krampus? In Germanic folklore, Krampus is the figure that serves as a kind of counterbalance to old St. Nick. While Santa takes on all the good kids, Krampus gets the caseloads of all the little girls and boys who haven’t been behaving very nicely.
Krampus, a horned, goat-like figure who is half demon, will be the guest of honor at the fairgrounds on Dec. 5 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. to pose for photos and guide visitors to a kind of goth holiday market with Krampus-related treats and merchandise.
Holiday Lights, a drive-thru holiday-themed light show, opens the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29, and runs through Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. Tickets are $20 per vehicle in advance; $25 at the gate.
The Krampus appearance opens a special walk-thru weekend for the Holiday Lights show with the Holiday Craft and Gift Fair. Tickets for that weekend are $10 adults; $5 kids 6-11; and free for kids under 6.
