Adolfo Gonzalez was deported back to Mexico for having three DUIs on his driving record. Fourteen years ago my good friend Michael, while driving home after work to his wife and three children, was killed by a drunk driver. The driver was charged with vehicle manslaughter and went to jail for one year.
Drunk driving is taken very seriously in most first-world nations. A person arrested for DUI in many European countries faces stiff fines and up to six months in prison for the first offense. It gets much worse if they are caught with a second DUI. I have no idea what happens if they are arrested for a third DUI.
So now after having three DUIs on his record, Gonzalez was picked up and deported back to Mexico. Instead of spending many years in prison for three DUIs, he now is living with his daughter and granddaughter in Mexico.
We are supposed to feel bad for what has happpened becasue he is now facing the consequences of his past actions. He was arrested three times for DUI. How many other times did Adolfo drive drunk and he wasn’t caught?
I suspect many, many times.
So, rather than spending several years in prison for his reckless actions, ICE deported him back to his home country of Mexico.
I don’t feel sorry for Adolfo Gonzalez. He broke the law by sneaking into Amercia and then endangered the public for many years as a drunk driver.
I still feel sorry for my friend Michael’s wife and three children who lost their father and husband to a drunk driver.
