The Murray Street Bridge construction project could be completed 30% sooner simply by including Saturdays and Sundays in the work schedule.
Crews could be staggered to eliminate overtime pay. The bridge is crucial infrastructure for our county. Opening it sooner should be a priority.
Go anywhere in the world, anywhere in the United States, anywhere in California, anywhere in our own county and you’ll see construction being performed on weekends, certainly in the private sector. It’s situations like this that cause people to lose trust in politicians and bureaucrats. Over regulation is a huge barrier — there are five government entities that claim some jurisdiction over this project — city, county, California Coastal Commission, parks and recreation, and fish and game. (This does not even include the harbor district.) This overlap leads to mismanagement in its highest form.
Too bad the American spirit of getting things done, and done right, has been lost
