The issue that Wallace Baine ignores in dismissing the SMART train as a good example of the train that might one day soon connect Santa Cruz to other coastal communities is he doesn’t mention the 10% of citizens who choose not to or cannot drive a car. In addition, he looks at the Santa Cruz community as it is today and not as it will be 50 or 100 years in the future, which is to say, much expanded in population (as long as our nation retains its capitalist, free-enterprise system).
So I believe, plan for the future and put in that train to spur good growth, not sprawl.
