A pedestrian is in the hospital after he was struck by a car Friday night while crossing 41st Avenue in Capitola outside of a crosswalk, police say. 

Capitola police say officers responded to a pedestrian-car collision around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 2100 block of 41st Avenue.

Police say the man was hit by the vehicle while attempting to cross six lanes of traffic on a section of 41st Avenue near the onramps to Highway 1. The man was airlifted to a regional trauma center, where he is in stable but serious condition. 

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Capitola Police Department noted that the man was wearing extremely dark clothing and didn’t have a flashlight or reflective gear. The driver of the vehicle that struck him was not impaired. The driver and passengers rendered aid to the victim, called 911 and remained on scene until authorities arrived.
