A motorcycle crash in Capitola on Saturday led police to arrest its rider for carrying a loaded handgun, police said.

The collision happened at 2:10 p.m. near the Capitola Mall entrance on 41st Avenue. A Harley Davidson motorcycle carrying two people was driving south on 41st Avenue when it collided with a Nissan Rogue carrying two people.

Central Fire Department firefighters and paramedics treated one person on scene for minor injuries before transporting them to a regional trauma center in stable condition.

During the investigation, officers discovered a loaded handgun in the motorcycle driver’s possession, leading to his arrest on felony firearms charges. He was taken into custody without incident, police said on social media.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and authorities are asking witnesses to contact the Capitola Police Department at (831) 475-4242.
