Property development
- The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has formally approved a zoning application for a project at 116 Glen Drive, located in the Aptos Planning Area. This proposal involves renewing a vacation rental permit for the two-bedroom property, which is currently used for short-term lodging, allowing guests to stay for up to 30 days. The renewal extends the permit’s expiration date from July 22, to July 22, 203. Under the Santa Cruz County Code, such renewals are generally supported unless there are documented violations of the Vacation Rental Ordinance. Public comments on the application were accepted until July 14, with a decision made on or after July 15. Appeals against this decision must be filed within two weeks of the decision date. Residents are encouraged to report any issues related to the property’s use as a vacation rental to the designated emergency contact, whose details are available on-site and on the Planning Department’s website. Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region
- A traffic hazard was reported today on Highway 1 North at the Morrissey intersection. A vehicle with hazard lights on was partially blocking the right lane. The California Highway Patrol monitored the situation.
- The southbound lanes of Highway 1 in Capitola/Soquel are facing closures for road excavation. The closure will continue until August 29 at 6:30 a.m.
Restaurant inspections
County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.
- El Patio Liquor at 312 Playa Blvd., La Selva Beach, passed a county health inspection on August 7 with no critical issues.
