Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation first cited on Aug. 6, for the property at 20 Magnifico Vita Lane, Watsonville, has now been addressed, according to county officials. The original Notice of Violation (Case NV25392) documented two main issues: neglect of the property, meaning it was not maintained in a safe, sanitary, and orderly condition, and unpermitted construction, specifically the entire single-family dwelling and septic system (including leach fields) being built without required permits or inspections. These violations were part of a series of ongoing compliance cases involving unpermitted structures and efforts to bring the property up to code. The county is currently monitoring the property to ensure continued compliance with all building and safety regulations.

Community crime report

  • Police found two people with drug paraphernalia during a probation search. One person also had methamphetamine and was held for a probation violation. The other person had an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody, then given a citation. This happened near the 100 block of Jehl Avenue, Watsonville, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 27. (source)
