Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley has one-way traffic because of emergency work. This closure will last until April 1.
     
  • CHP helped Caltrans with maintenance work at 195 Capitola Rd Ext today. The Safety Service Program was also there to provide information and support.
     

Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has received a zoning application for a project at 545 14th Avenue. The proposal seeks to renew a permit for a three-bedroom vacation rental in the existing single-family home at this address. If approved, the permit would allow the property to be rented out for overnight stays of up to 30 days at a time. (view application)
     
  • A permit application has been filed for a project at 2950 PLEASURE Point Dr, Santa Cruz 95062, proposing to remove the current landscaping and relocate the courtyard wall closer to the street within the front yard setback area. This change would require a minor variation to a previously approved coastal development permit. The property is situated between Pleasure Point Drive and the beach, approximately 230 feet west of Rockview Drive. (view details)

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Kitchen 831 at 2890 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz, passed a county health inspection on January 14 with no critical issues.
     
  • Tacos Moreno at 1601 41st Ave. Ste W, Capitola, passed a county health inspection on January 15 with no critical issues.
     

Community crime report

  • A burglary was reported near the 100 Block of Bixby St., Santa Cruz. The incident happened at 11 p.m. on January 11. (source)
       
  • A grand theft involving money, labor, or property was reported online. The incident happened near the 600 Block of Ocean St., Santa Cruz at midnight on December 22. (source)
