A new analysis of the region’s economy finds that job quality continues to be a challenge in Santa Cruz County, Jessica M. Pasko reports, with more than 57% of local jobs falling into the lowest-paying category. The key findings of this year’s workforce housing report are just part of her weekly look at local business.
Caly Luna Plowman was at the corner of Ocean and Water streets in Santa Cruz on Monday evening as community members turned out to protest and grieve the latest killings by federal immigration officials. “It’s just really heartbreaking,” one said of the deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, “and so we wanted to come out and show love for the people who have passed on, give candles and say their name.”
