Christopher Neely dug into voter turnout in the March 5 primary election, and found that while Santa Cruz County did better than our neighbors and the state as a whole, the sub-50% number has some worried.

Despite outpacing neighbor counties, Santa Cruz’s primary turnout still ‘very concerning’
Santa Cruz County has consistently turned out at a higher rate in primary elections than its neighboring counties and the statewide average. However, Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, the county’s former clerk, called the sub-50% turnout in the 2024 primary “very concerning.” Details here from Christopher Neely.
Alderwood executive chef Jeffrey Wall quits suddenly
“Quit my job today. Call me if you want good food,” Jeffrey Wall wrote Friday on Instagram. It’s unclear why Wall left Alderwood or who will take the reins of the Santa Cruz fine-dining restaurant now that he’s gone. Lily Belli reports.
