CURTAIN RISES FOR SUMMER THEATER
The curtain is up at theaters throughout the county. Santa Cruz Shakepeare’s summer shows opened this week, with William Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” and “Macbeth” running multiple times a week in the Audrey Stanley Grove at DeLaveaga Park, with tickets starting at $25.
In downtown Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Actors’ Theatre on Center Street is showing “Escaping Queens,” written by Capitola playwright Joe Ortiz, through Aug. 2. Tickets are $40. Lookout contributor Jana Marcus gave her thoughts on the show here.
Renegade Theater Co. is performing “Cry-Baby: The Musical,” based on the 1990 John Waters cult classic film, at London Nelson Community Center through the weekend. Tickets start at $20.
In Aptos, Cabrillo Stage’s production of “Sister Act: The Musical” comes to the Crocker Theater four days a week through Aug. 2. Tickets start at $40. Marcus reviewed the show earlier this week. – Lily Belli
