The Santa Cruz Art League (SCAL) makes way for its 94th annual California Landscape Show from July 16 through Aug. 23. Located at the SCAL gallery at 526 Broadway, this monthlong event is free and open to the public from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
A public reception will be held at the same location on Aug. 1, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., when the exhibition juror, Kim Lordier, and SCAL staff will announce awards. An artist talk will also be open to the public on Aug. 9 from 1:30 to 3 p.m., featuring up to three of the exhibiting artists.
The first statewide landscape exhibition was held in 1928 and has showcased the work of California’s landscape artists for the past nine decades. This exhibition features artists from across the Golden State who depict the iconic foothills, mountains, seashores, cityscapes and deserts of the interior and coastal regions of their home state.
SCAL, founded in 1919 by local plein air artists, is one of the oldest art institutions on the Central Coast. For over a century, SCAL has striven to give local artists a space to come together for exhibitions, art classes, community events and more.
