Police have arrested two 17-year-olds in connection with the shooting incident outside the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk on Monday night that prompted its evacuation, according to a media release Tuesday from the Santa Cruz Police Department. The two juveniles were arrested in Ceres, in Stanislaus County.
The release said that once officers arrived on scene shortly after the initial report of gunfire Monday night, they searched the area for suspects, secured the scene and collected “multiple pieces of evidence.” It says that the Ceres Police Department and the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team assisted SCPD in making the arrests.
SCPD spokesperson Katie Lee declined to comment on what evidence was collected and what the juveniles would be charged with.
At around 9 p.m., the SCPD responded to reports of shots fired. The Boardwalk, including the arcade and Neptune’s Kingdom, were evacuated and security gave instructions to shelter-in-place.
No one was struck by gunfire, there were no reported injuries and there was no active threat to the public, Lee said Monday night: “The scene is secure.”
More than 15 police cars were on the scene by about 9:45 p.m., and the vehicles slowly began filing out by 10:15 pm.
