Santa Cruz County property owners have until Tuesday to submit ballots deciding the future of local mosquito, tick and rodent control funding.
The Santa Cruz County Mosquito and Vector Control Division is warning that mailed ballots might not arrive in time and should now be returned in person to the district’s office at 640 Capitola Rd. in Santa Cruz.
Ballots can also be delivered to the board of supervisors meeting before the public hearing concludes at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the Watsonville City Council chambers, 275 Main St.
The proposed benefit assessment would provide local funding to sustain and expand disease prevention services as costs rise and invasive mosquito species, capable of carrying illnesses dengue and Zika, appear in the area.
If approved, most property owners would pay about $1 per month, with all revenue restricted to local vector control programs. Officials said that ballots should not be placed in general election drop boxes, though any misdirected ballots will still be counted.
For replacement ballots or more information, residents can call 831-454-2590 or visit mvc.santacruzcountyca.gov.
