The Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau has honored Larry Jacobs and Sandra Belin, co-owners of Jacobs Farm del Cabo, as the organization’s 2025 Farmers of the Year, citing their leadership in agriculture locally and well beyond county borders over the past several decades.
Jacobs and Belin founded Jacobs Farm in Pescadero in 1980 and have since added three Santa Cruz County locations – Swanton, Wilder Ranch and Freedom – among their seven sites growing organic herbs.
Over the years, Belin and Jacobs have launched multiple organizations focused on bettering farming, such as Farm Fuel Inc. and the Great African Food Company, as well as aiding small farm families in Mexico to become self-sustainable and connect their crops to California markets. Together, they have also won multiple awards, like the Organic Trade Association’s 2007 Organic Farming Leadership Award for innovative farming practices and work to educate farmers on organic practices, and later the Stewards of Sustainable Agriculture award at the Ecological Farming Association’s 2009 Eco-Farm.
Jacobs and Belin received the award during the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau’s 108th annual meeting/dinner last Thursday in La Selva Beach.
