The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a second wave of auto and residential burglaries in the Aptos and Day Valley areas.

Officers observed a similar pattern six weeks ago, when they investigated more than a dozen burglaries at residential and commercial properties in Aptos, with addresses on Tolak Road, Calle Serra, Ridge View Road, Townsend Drive, Bayview Drive and Freedom Boulevard among those targeted.

Many of those earlier burglaries happened at night, and investigators said at the time they believed the crimes were connected. Some of the properties targeted by the break-ins were unlocked, and outdoor sheds were also broken into. “A similar pattern occurred about six weeks ago,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook, “and it appears to be happening again.

Detectives are working leads and reviewing surveillance footage. But per a social media post, the sheriff’s office is advising Aptos and Day Valley residents to take extra safety precautions to help prevent further criminal activity, like checking their home security for any suspicious activity, especially for any activity happening during the late-night and early-morning hours and making sure their doors are locked.

Anyone who spots unusual activity or has videos that might help the investigation can contact the sheriff’s office at 831-471-1121.
