The City of Santa Cruz’s purchasing division won a national procurement award for the second year in a row.

The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement is handed out annually by the National Procurement Institute to public and nonprofit agencies in the United States and Canada that show an unwavering commitment to excellence in procurement.

Organizations are ranked on criteria designed to measure innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

The program also encourages continuous improvement and high standards of practice. This year, there were 216 winners across the country, including 85 cities, 48 counties, 23 special districts, 26 school districts, 15 higher education institutions, seven state or provincial agencies and 12 other public entities.

“It’s a testament to the team’s hard work, collaboration, and commitment to ensuring that our procurement processes are efficient, transparent, and aligned with the city’s values,” Santa Cruz finance director Elizabeth Cabell said in a media release.
