Crews have started demolishing the former Dolphin Restaurant as part of repairs to the Santa Cruz Wharf that are expected to be completed by March. The wharf suffered damage in storms in December 2023.

Santa Cruz Wharf repairs, Dolphin Restaurant demolition planned
The City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department and Power Engineering Construction Company have begun repair work at the south end of the Santa Cruz Wharf that is expected to stretch into March 2025 and will include demolition of the former Dolphin Restaurant.
Dolphin Restaurant to be demolished due to damage as city plans ‘reimagining’ of end of wharf
The Dolphin Restaurant at the end of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf will be demolished in order to fix pilings underneath it damaged in a December storm surge. The city hasn’t yet determined whether the restaurant, which has stood at the end of the wharf since 1963, will be rebuilt, and plans to bring the issue to the community in a “reimagining process” on how to use the space.

A storm surge at the end of December damaged several pilings on the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf directly under the Dolphin, a 63-year-old diner. The City of Santa Cruz, which owns the building and the wharf, hasn’t yet determined whether the Dolphin will need to be demolished and rebuilt in order to make repairs.
