‘They assured us they would pave this’: Damaged roads creating a rebuild headache for many CZU families
The Board of Supervisors voted to asked Gov. Gavin Newsom to pressure Anvil Builders Inc. to repair damage the county says it caused to local roads as part of a debris-removing project that followed the CZU fire. Anvil responded that it only used equipment allowed under its contract and is not at fault.

A judge OKs placement of sexually violent predator in Bonny Doon — shocked residents call it a ‘gross mistake’
Over the objections of prosecutors and neighbors Monday, a Santa Cruz judge approved the placement of Michael Cheek, diagnosed as a sexually violent predator, in a Bonny Doon home. Assistant District Attorney Alexander Byers said he plans to appeal the ruling, and Judge Syda Cogliati agreed to delay the effective date of the decision to give him a chance to do so.

The former Jaye’s Timberlane Resort will house as many as 40 in its dwellings. “This project is led by veterans for veterans,” said Vets Hall executive director Chris Cottingham. “And the village atmosphere will support community as well as self-sufficiency.”
