Capitola police say they arrested a teenager with a suspended license, a sawed-off shotgun and dangerous fireworks in his vehicle.
Last week on Capitola Road, a Capitola Police Department officer recognized a 17-year-old behind the wheel of a truck, who was driving with a license that had been suspended because of prior hit-and-runs. The officer pulled over the teenager and ordered him out of the vehicle.
Investigators discovered a sawed-off, 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun in the cab of the pickup truck, an illegal weapon in California. A search of the teen’s car also uncovered dangerous mortar fireworks, police said.
The suspect was arrested on several felony firearms charges, in addition to driving on a suspended license with multiple prior incidents. He was booked into juvenile hall and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
A follow-up investigation is ongoing. Police said it was unclear where the teen got the shotgun, but they said the weapon did not belong to his parents.
