To celebrate this monumental achievement, we interviewed each member of our Pulitzer Prize-winning team to reflect on their on-the-ground coverage of the 2023 storms and the recognition that followed.

Up first, Christopher Neely, Politics & Policy Correspondent, provides a behind-the-scenes look at our commitment to on-the-ground reporting and what it means to rise to the occasion during critical moments.

In his interview, Christopher highlights the importance of our on-the-ground reporting:

We had our office, but it felt like the office was maybe a place to find refuge in between going out … which we found like to be the most important aspect of reporting on this. You know, we’re a local news outlet. We should be on the ground, seeing what’s happening and reporting from as close to this as possible.

Reflecting on the Pulitzer Prize, he says:

“I take comfort in knowing that we we were called to a moment, and we really rose to the occasion.”
