Snazzy Productions is presenting a tribute concert for the late songwriter Todd Snider on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in downtown Santa Cruz.
The sold-out event will feature more than 20 local musicians, each performing their favorite Snider song. Jim Lewin, Snider’s former bandmate with the Nervous Wrecks, plans to pay tribute to Snider, who died of pneumonia in November at age 59, with a solo performance.
Among those also scheduled to perform are Michael Gaither, Andy Fuhrman, Ralph Anybody, Kellen & Jamie Coffis, Aileen Vance, Ella & Henry Warde and Ginny Mitchell.
Snazzy Productions director Ron Sandidge remembers Snider as “the kind of guy that in Santa Cruz, they say, ‘Keep Santa Cruz weird’ — that’s what they’re talking about.”
According to Sandidge, all 200 seats available for the tribute concert have been swept up by the music-loving community in Santa Cruz County.
Snazzy Productions puts on a different benefit concert annually, with this year’s proceeds going toward Encompass Community Services, a local nonprofit providing health and human services throughout the county.
“We’re thrilled to gather such an incredible group of artists to celebrate Todd Snider’s music while supporting a local organization doing meaningful work,” Snazzy Productions organizers said in a news release. “It’s going to be an unforgettable night for a great cause.”
