Three separate vehicle crashes in Hollister-Gilroy resulted in deaths this weekend, two of which were residents of Watsonville and Aptos. Neither resident has been ID’d or had their name released to the public. The Hollister-Gilroy California Highway Patrol office said that the incidents did not seem to be associated in any way, and the causes of the crashes are still being investigated.
A 45-year-old Watsonville woman and a 56-year-old Aptos man of Aptos were among those killed in three separate vehicle crashes in Santa Clara County over the weekend.
The first crash occurred on Saturday evening on U.S. Highway 101 near the Sargent Bridge overpass. When officers from the California Highway Patrol Hollister-Gilroy area arrived, they discovered a damaged Honda motorcycle and its female operator nearby with serious injuries, according to a CHP news release. Despite lifesaving efforts, the 45-year-old Watsonville resident succumbed to her injuries.
According to the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office, the woman’s identity is still pending and has not been released.
Another crash involving a motorcycle occurred on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old San Jose man. A Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado towing trailer on State Route 152 at Ferguson Road. When area officers responded to the scene, they discovered the male operator of the motorcycle with suspected serious injuries, and despite lifesaving efforts he passed away, according to a CHP news release.
Later that Sunday evening, a third crash resulted in the death of a 56-year-old resident of Aptos. A Ford F-150 pickup crashed head-on into a Toyota pickup on Bolsa Road, north of Bloomfield Road, according to a CHP news release. When area officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a damaged Toyota pickup with an unresponsive driver. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver of the Toyota died.
The driver of the Ford attempted to flee the scene on foot before collapsing, the release said. The driver was arrested for fleeing the scene of a crash.
According to the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office, the Aptos resident’s ID is still pending and has not been released.
Preliminary investigation has yet to rule out any potential causes of all three crashes, and as of today the investigations into the causes of the crashes are still ongoing.
