Road incidents as of 9:30 p.m. on August 19

  • At 9:noon today, a traffic hazard was reported at 16900 Highway 9 in San Lorenzo Valley. There were many branches and debris in the lanes. Some people moved a tree to the right-hand shoulder, but debris was still left in the lanes.
     
  • A dead deer was found partly blocking the road at Quail Hollow Rd and Eggleson Ln in San Lorenzo Valley. The animal hazard was reported today.
     
  • Highway 9 at Prospect Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley has one-way traffic control because of emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 3:59 p.m. on August 23.
     
  • A lane on northbound Highway 9 at mile marker 13.6 in San Lorenzo Valley is closed for utility work. The closure is expected to end at 5:01 p.m. tomorrow.
     
  • A traffic collision happened around 5:08 p.m. at Graham Hill Rd and Treetop Dr, near 145 Graham Hill Rd across from Graham Hill Liquors in the Eastside / Live Oak area. A vehicle may have driven off an embankment, and the driver was suspected to be under the influence. Emergency services, including a tow truck and PG&E, were called because a guide line was hit. The incident was reported today.
     
  • Northbound Highway 1 is facing closures at Route 129 in the Watsonville / Pajaro area because of electrical work. The closure is expected to end at 2:59 p.m. on August 21.
     
  • A lane on southbound Highway 1 at Buena Vista Drive in Watsonville / Pajaro is closed for emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 6:59 a.m. today.
     
  • A lane on eastbound SR-152 at Corralitos Creek Bridge in Watsonville / Pajaro is closed for utility work. The closure is expected to end at 3:01 p.m. today.
     
  • A lane on northbound Highway 17 at Spanish Bit Chapel in Scotts Valley is closed for utility work. The closure is expected to end at 5:01 a.m. today.
     

Long-term projects

These have been going on for a while, but are still worth keeping in mind.

  • A single lane will be closed on Sims Rd and La Madrona Drive from Brook Knoll Road to 600 La Madrona Drive, Eastside / Live Oak, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., now until February 2026, for a pipeline project by SCWD and SLVWD. Traffic control will be in place during this time.
     
  • Richmond Drive at Portola Drive and 24th Avenue in Eastside / Live Oak is experiencing traffic delays and lane closures for the Rodeo pump station upgrade. Work happens daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will continue through September 30, weather permitting. There will also be extra construction on April 12 and 13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
     
  • The southbound Highway 17 off-ramp at La Madrona Drive in Santa Cruz County will be closed on Saturday, August 23, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both directions of La Madrona Drive will be affected during this time.
