Coach Jenn has had a tremendous impact in our community not only as the head coach at Pajaro Valley High School but as the director of Watsonville Starlings Volleyball Club. Coach Jenn is a beloved figure in our community, making a remarkable impact through her coaching and mentorship. She is not only passionate about the sport but also deeply committed to the growth and development of her players. Her coaching style is all about creating a positive and supportive environment where everyone feels encouraged to give their best.
Her strong dedication to helping these young athletes thrive has left an indelible mark on a lot of their lives. Coach Jenn said her volleyball journey began “when I first saw my cousin playing when I was in fifth grade and then I started playing soon after that once I entered middle school and since then I’ve played, helped out with camps, head coached with Watsonville Starlings, and now am the director of Watsonville Starlings .” Her first challenge was taking on her first 12-and-under team. Since then, she has become a force to be reckoned with, leading teams to numerous victories.
One of the things that sets Coach Jenn apart is her dedication to mentorship. She goes beyond teaching volleyball skills and takes the time to connect with her athletes on a personal level. She believes in building their self-confidence, teamwork and resilience both on and off the court. Many of her players have shared stories about how Coach Henn has helped them overcome challenges and become better individuals. One of many well-trained athletes, Haley Curtan, said, “She’s helped me become more confident in myself: Self-love is the most important thing for my mental health. She gave me a safe place on the volleyball court that allowed me to be comfortable around new people and helped build long-term sisterhoods. She has also let me volunteer-coach for starkidz to develop significant leadership skills. Doing this I was able to give back to my community and impact younger girls with lots of guidance and love in club volleyball. ”
Jenn’s influence extends far beyond the realm of sports. She is a true role model, teaching her athletes valuable life lessons and transcending the boundaries of the court. Coach Jenn is actively involved – she organizes volleyball camps, allowing young athletes to learn and improve their skills. She also volunteered at Linscott Charter School as coach, promoting the sport and inspiring the next generation of volleyball players. Through her guidance, countless young athletes have learned the importance of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. Her impact carries throughout the community, as players carry these lessons with them into their daily lives. Her impact is not just limited to the volleyball court. Coach Jenn has led her teams to multiple championship wins, showcasing her coaching powers. But more importantly, she created a supportive and inclusive team culture where players feel like they belong and can thrive.
Coach Jenn’s outstanding qualities as a coach and mentor are evident in every interaction she has with her players. Her genuine care for their well-being shines through her actions. She takes the time to listen to her athletes, providing support and guidance when they need it the most. Her positive attitude, patience and unwavering belief in her players create an environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to reach their full potential.
In conclusion, Coach Jenn sees Watsonville Starlings having a tremendous future ahead of them: “My biggest outcome, my goal is to probably see athletes come back as coaches if possible. But I would like to increase the amount of teams that we have _ a couple programs I’d like to build upon would be our boys program. Boys volleyball is up and coming now especially in our area in Watsonville. Then maybe in the near future we go into beach programs. So there’s a couple programs we are trying to throw in there, but the biggest goal is to just see more athletes come out and play.”
Jenn’s impact on our community cannot be overstated. Through her coaching, she has not only developed skilled athletes but has also shaped the character and values of the young individuals she works with. Her dedication, passion and unwavering support continue to inspire and uplift those around her. Coach Jenn’s legacy will undoubtedly live on, as her influence continues to shape the lives of future athletes and community members.
