The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is offering low-cost spay or neuter surgery, core vaccines and a microchip for up to 200 pets next month.
The clinic runs Feb. 14-16 and is offering services for 100 cats and 100 dogs. Spay and neuter surgeries will cost $150 for cats and $300 for dogs. Those receiving public assistance services, like CalFresh or MediCal, can qualify for additional discounts of $75 for a cat and $150 for a dog.
Fees will be the same regardless of services needed and must be paid with registration. Staff will be on hand during regular shelter business hours to help those needing to pay cash or who can’t use smartphone or digital payments.
To be eligible for spay and neuter services, pets must be healthy, between 8 weeks and 8 years old, and weigh between 2 and 80 pounds. Senior pets with known health problems, or dogs and cats with very short noses, like pugs or Persian cats, will not be eligible for the clinic.
During the clinic, owners who have registered will bring their pets to the shelter’s education center at 2260 7th Ave., Santa Cruz, on the morning of the scheduled service.
Owners will be called to pick up their pets in late afternoon or before 5:30 p.m. on the procedure day. They will also receive additional post-operative instructions via email at the address they provide during registration.
To take advantage of the service the shelter has provided in partnership with Animal Balance, pet owners can visit www.scanimalshelter.org to register for the clinic.
