Here they are, nine necessary know-abouts for the week ahead. It’s the fading-summer B9:
- Roaring Camp, late summer, lots of sun, Ozomatli, Tower of Power, Michael Franti & Spearhead: It’s time for the Santa Cruz Mountain Sol Festival, and you can’t lose.
- Not too much of a nighthawk these days? Moe’s Alley’s Sunday afternoon shows — this time featuring the amazing Coco Montoya — could be your jam.
- The 2020 CZU fires were a historic marker in this community. It’s only right that we gather, mourn and remember.
- I say the trombone has been overlooked and undervalued for far too long, and I’m betting fans of the great Fred Wesley are on my side on this one.
- If you want to go deep into the cultural roots of traditional Mexican folklórico dance, this way to the rabbit hole.
- So, uh, we can’t really call this a, y’know, recommendation. But you should know two things you might not want to know: The Testicle Festival is here, and it’s a food festival.
- Every day between now and the end of August (except Monday), fine theater is going down at The Grove. Have you done your Shakespeare yet this year?
- It’s called “Tokyo Hot Tub Party,” but technically, there is no hot tub. It’s more a pre-Burning Man exercise in groove, at Woodhouse Brewing.
- “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” is the improv monster that will never die, and thank goodness. The guys you recognize from TV come to the Civic.
