Here they are, nine necessary know-abouts for the week ahead. It’s the spring-in-my-step B9:
- Let’s set aside all those March Irish obsessions for a minute and go full-on Scottish music, with the energetic and fiery Glasgow band Breabach … and yes, there are bagpipes involved.
- Two talented Santa Cruz sisters share their harmonies, cultivated from years of growing up together.
- Big deal at the latest poetry reading from The Hive: California’s poet laureate and a Pulitzer poet come together in one place at one time at Bookshop.
- It’s an annual tradition at Santa Cruz’s Barrios Unidos to pay respect to the great Cesar Chavez on his birthday, with food, live music and all kinds of fun.
- Wait, dudes in suits and lucha libre masks playing wildly inventive surf guitar? And the best Tex-Mex swing band in California? On the same night?
- It would be enough if Mountain Community Theater gave us all “The Odd Couple,” but instead MCT is presenting two different “Odd Couples.”
- The great Americana-gothic trio The Devil Makes Three started right here in Santa Cruz, and now DM3 is back in their old stomping grounds.
- The MAH honors local women in a celebration that includes games, talks and stories.
- She’s been around, but maybe you haven’t heard the lovely, folk-ish work of singer-songwriter Madi Diaz. She’s worth discovering.
