The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says a body was found in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the search for 73-year-old Jeanne Burke, who has been missing since late November.

In Tuesday’s news release, the sheriff’s office said that on Sunday, while searching for Burke, a body was found in a wooded area inside the search zone near Ice Cream Grade and Moore Ranch Road. However, the coroner’s office has not yet determined the identity of the body.

Burke was most recently seen alive the afternoon of Nov. 18 near the Felton quarry, walking toward Empire Grade Road.

“Due to medical reasons, we are concerned for Jeanne’s safety,” sheriff’s deputies had said in the days after her disappearance, as they broadened a search that would last two months.

Deputies used drones and asked nearby residents to check security camera footage. More than 100 search-and-rescue volunteers from across the state helped local law enforcement search for Burke.
