Bonnie Lipscomb is moving into a new role with the City of Santa Cruz as deputy city manager.
Lipscomb is currently the city’s economic development and housing director. She has worked for the city since 2007, most recently overseeing economic development plans as Santa Cruz undergoes a major redevelopment of its downtown to add thousands of housing units and new ground-floor commercial space.
In her new position, Lipscomb will focus on citywide initiatives, policy development and organizational leadership, City Manager Matt Huffaker said in a news release.
Lipscomb has more than 25 years of experience in economic and community development, including over two decades in local government. She has helped lead projects such as the Santa Cruz Warriors arena, Tannery Arts Center, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center, Riverwalk and Water Street Apartments and the Pacific Station South mixed-use development project.
Outside of government, she sits on the boards of several local organizations, including Santa Cruz Works, which she helped establish, the Bay Area Development Company, and the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union. She also holds the position of vice-chair at the Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce.
“Bonnie’s work has significantly strengthened our local economy and enriched our community,” Huffaker wrote in the release. “Her strategic vision and deep commitment to Santa Cruz make her an ideal fit for the deputy city manager role.”
