Quick Take

Lookout's Community Voices section invites Santa Cruz County poets to submit their work for possible publication, poems that capture what spring means — in our community, in this moment.

Happy spring, Santa Cruz County poets!

Lookout is continuing our dabble with poetry, and we invite you to submit poems that capture what spring means — in our community, in this moment. Think nature, change, memory, hope, whatever inspires you.

Is it renewal, return, or small revolutions? Show us. Is it cliffs lit gold by afternoon sun, redwoods waking from winter, surfers and students sharing the shoreline, or something darker?

We accept work from local poets of all ages and experience levels. We can’t wait to showcase your work on our pages. Next month, we will publish up to three selected poems in our Community Voices pages.

Submission guidelines:

  • Send up to three original poems (50 lines max each).
  • Must be a current or previous Santa Cruz County resident.
  • Previously published work is welcome.
  • Paste poems into the body of the email.
  • Include poem title, your name, a short author bio and a phone number where we can reach you.

Email submissions to jody@lookoutlocal.com by May 30 for consideration.
