The Capitola City Council voted Thursday to allocate $13,000 toward a concept plan for repairs to or a replacement for the section of the Grand Avenue pathway on Depot Hill that collapsed into the ocean in February.
The move does not mean that the city is committing to actually repair the popular pedestrian path just yet. But the plan will inform the next steps and allow the city to decide if it wants to fund a project.
Santa Cruz-based landscaping firm SSA Landscape Architects will lead the first phase, which will include a concept design for the pathway, a cost estimate for a potential project and a topographic survey, or detailed study of the surrounding terrain.
The study phase is expected to take two to three months to complete, and staff are aiming to come back to the council in the spring to consider next steps.
