For the first time ever, the night sky above the fairgrounds will be alive with dancing lights! The Fair is excited to announce our NEW, nightly Skye Dreams Drone Show!
Keeping with the theme of Pioneer Days to Modern Ways, the futuristic Drone Show is the embodiment of modern ways.
Each night, 200 state-of-the-art drones will take to the air (several hundred feet high) for a 12-minute show, choreographed to a custom music track.
No spoiler alerts here… but we can tell you our custom drone show includes a Salute to America, our 2024 mascot Space Kid and the UC Santa Cruz mascot, Sammy the Slug—all in lights!
“The show is always a team effort,” say Terry and Deb Toews of Skye Dreams LLC. “We meet at the site to survey the facility, work with the Fair’s management and creative team to create a music track and inventory of images for the show. Once the music and images are done, designers program the show and test fly the show virtually. The Drone Port launchpad is set up the day before the show starts, readying the 200 drones for flight. On the day of the show, the technical team charges the batteries, finalizes the file for the show and checks each drone for showtime!”
Skye Dreams is in its third year producing shows throughout central California. Our show features the newest drones, each equipped with three large 1600 lumen LED RGB lights capable of more than 2,000 colors.
“We do this because it brings joy to people. We love doing this!” says Deb.
Skye Dreams’ drones are eco-friendly, re-usable and use solar generators to re-charge the batteries.
The drones take to the sky each evening of the Fair:
- On Wednesday and Thursday the show starts at 8:30pm, following the Monster Truck shows.
- On Friday and Saturday the show starts at 9:00pm, following the concert in the amphitheater.
- On Sunday the show starts at 9:30pm, following the concert.

If tickets are purchased at the Fair Office, there are no additional fees. There is a convenience fee to use the online ticket portal. Pre-sale ticket prices will be available through Tuesday, September 10th at 11:59pm
