Quick Take

Christopher Bradford says he is a listener whose grassroots campaign is hitting a nerve with people in District 5. Bradford lost his home in the CZU Lightning Complex fires and believes the county has been too slow to rebuild. He promises to have an office that “supports conversations” and transparency.

Editor’s note: Lookout editors wanted to give you a chance to hear from candidates directly. But we also did not want them to simply repeat their campaign slogans. So we asked them a single question: “How will you provide the sort of leadership our community needs and how are you prepared to meet the moment as it arises?”

We gave them 500 words to answer. We hope their answers will provide one more outlet of information as you decide who to vote for on March 5.

My campaign is built on transparency and communication.

It is my first platform issue, and for very good reason. It is one of the most important things our community needs from its new supervisor. The good people in District 5 have felt unseen, unheard and not represented for a very long time. There has been a huge disconnect between the people of the district and the county.

And it is my mission to change that.

My supporters can both see and feel this. Week after week, I spend time in various communities, walking different neighborhoods so I can hear from constituents first-hand what their concerns are. I don’t shy away from any conversations and I make myself available constantly. That’s why there is such a huge amount of grassroots excitement about my campaign. People feel like they finally have a candidate who is deeply invested in our community and who actually cares.

And I do.

Because providing that transparency and access to my office is important to the people of District 5. I want to create an office that supports conversations. The analysts I will choose will be knowledgeable professionals who actually live in the district and have deep connections to our community. I will have regular office hours with availability in the evenings and some weekends so that working folks will have the same access to their supervisor as those who don’t work or have more flexibility. I will have regular town hall meetings that are well-announced and publicized so the community can come together and discuss what their concerns are.

The needs of the people of District 5 speak to me because they are my needs as well. These are my friends and neighbors. I’ve already been fighting for infrastructure, fighting to get people in their homes, fighting and working hard on disaster and fire mitigation so that we all have a better chance of keeping our homes as time passes.

I have been putting my skills as a software engineer, AI developer, small-business owner and treasurer to work for my community as an advocate for years now. When I’m the District 5 supervisor, I’ll be able to fight even harder, and get great results for our communities.
