The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Soquel man on multiple child sex crime charges on Tuesday. He was previously a Santa Cruz Pop Warner youth football coach.

According to a sheriff’s office media release, deputies recently received a report of a sexual assault involving a minor that had occurred within the past two months. A subsequent investigation uncovered that the victim had been assaulted on multiple occasions.

The investigation came to a head on Tuesday, when detectives arrested Christopher John Weekes, 32, of Soquel. He is facing multiple sex-related charges, including “lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14” and two other felony child sex crimes.

Santa Cruz Pop Warner President Ernie Camacho confirmed to Lookout that Weekes was a coach in the program, and has been suspended indefinitely: “We put the integrity of our program and the protection of our kids at the highest priority.”

The investigation remains ongoing, as detectives believe it is possible that there are other victims. The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information to call 831-471-1121.
