Daytime ramp closures and overnight lane closures are planned this week as construction continues on a project to add north- and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Highway 1 between the 41st Avenue and Soquel Drive interchanges and construct of a new bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue in Santa Cruz.

The current phase of construction, according to the California Department of Transportation, includes the widening of the center median, landscaping and constructing pedestrian access to the new pedestrian bridge.

From Tuesday, Nov. 12, through Friday, Nov. 15, the northbound Highway 1 onramp at westbound 41st Avenue will intermittently be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Construction on the sidewalk along Soquel Avenue between 17th Avenue and Chanticleer Avenue to provide access to the new Chanticleer Avenue bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing this week will require a detour of pedestrian traffic on Soquel Avenue around the work area via Rodriguez Street.

Sidewalk construction, which will continue through early December, will also result in intermittent daytime flagging closures for vehicles on Soquel Avenue on Tuesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Finally, from Tuesday, Nov. 12, through Thursday, Nov. 14, motorists on northbound Highway 1 will encounter an overnight closure of the left lane from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. A closure of the left lane of southbound Highway 1 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. is also possible.
