Quick Take
KAZU (90.3FM) is still experiencing disruptions from a long-in-the-making move of its facilities to a new site owned by its parent institution, Cal State Monterey Bay. A spokesman said that the station is experiencing delays in the delivery of equipment to make the station fully functional.
KAZU (90.3 FM), the Monterey Bay region’s NPR affiliate, is finishing up 2025 asking for its listeners’ patience. A long-planned move of the station’s facilities in Monterey has resulted in occasional on-air disruptions and the continuing absence of the local staff’s live on-air hosting.

Interim general manager Kellsy Panno sent out a holiday message to the station’s members, explaining that the station’s move to its new studio is still in progress and “the work is taking longer than anticipated.”
KAZU is operated by Cal State Monterey Bay, and its new studio is on a CSUMB property at Ryan Ranch, east of Monterey. CSUMB spokesperson Walter Ryce said in a statement that the station’s transition into a functioning studio at the Ryan Ranch site “has experienced some delays with the delivery of equipment and the completion of the project.” Ryce did not give a date on which he expects the new studio to be fully operational, but said, “We can’t wait to return to live on-air hosting.”
In the meantime, KAZU might soon be looking for new leadership. Panno has been serving as the station’s general manager on an interim basis since previous general manager Dan Larkin resigned on Dec. 1. Ryce said that the station has yet to “determine next steps” in the general manager position.
