Kevin Gallagher’s Community Voices opinion piece on Coral Street sweeps doesn’t even look at the reality that drug dealing and street hustling, which happens all the time on Coral Street, is a crime.  

There are children who play Little League games at Harvey West Park. There are businesses like Costco and the granite company as well as others in this area that depend on customers to visit their stores safely.  

There are two housing projects being developed and a third one that will be built across from the Tannery. 

Santa Cruz housing models like the Tannery is what we need to revitalize our communities and not a San Francisco Tenderloin-type environment where prostitution, drug trafficking and criminal activities occur. Is that what Mr. Gallagher wants Santa Cruz to become? 

Thank you to the city officials for clearing out these illegal activities and squatting. We need to deter vagrancy and enforce public safety and order.
