What went on at the Sept. 16 board of trustees meeting of Pajaro Valley Unified School District should alert everyone in this district of how one person can raise havoc and potentially endanger the welfare of all of the students in that district.Â
Trustee Gabe Medina got funding for a school in his district and then left, leaving the board without a quorum to vote on crucial funding for the arts and for Rolling Hills Middle School. As a result, the board must have an emergency meeting to approve funding for Proposition 28 program for the arts. If not passed by the end of the month, the money is lost.Â
Medina is one trustee, but he is backing Mads Realmuto to replace Dr. Misty Navarro. Navarro is an emergency room physician who has continually pushed back at Medina’s antics. One Medina is bad; can you imagine the havoc of having another one on the board?
Realmuto has failed to condemn Medina for what many consider misogynistic outbursts and racist and antisemitic rhetoric. Silence in this case is quiet approval of this outrageous conduct. The people of District VII have a choice. They can vote for Navarro and help her fight for the students of the PVUSD or they can vote for her opponent and have a Medina clone to represent them.
