Road incidents as of 8:30 p.m. on January 5

  • A large tree fell and blocked the road at White Rd and Gillette Rd in Aptos at 8:08 p.m. today. There were no downed wires or vehicles involved. County Roads was called to clear the tree.
     
  • Eureka Canyon at Las Colinas in Santa Cruz County, Aptos, was fully closed to traffic at 8:15 p.m. on January 4. The closure is expected to last until the morning of November 4.
     
  • A white BMW went off the road and hit an embankment at Highway 9 and Rincon Railroad on the Westside near Downtown around 7:48 p.m. today. Emergency services responded, and all lanes were closed for a short time. Although there were initial concerns about injuries, the incident was later classified as a non-injury collision. The vehicle was moved off the roadway.
     
  • A traffic hazard was reported at 7:32 p.m. today on northbound Highway 17 at Sugarloaf Rd in Scotts Valley. Small rocks, including one the size of a basketball, were found in the left lane and caused a white 2005 Audi TT to break down due to suspension damage. The driver waited at the Wedding Chapel driveway. Crews cleared the rocks, and cars were able to get through the area.
     
  • There is a one-way traffic closure on South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley because of emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 3:59 p.m. on April 1.
