Monterey County sheriff’s deputies say they found the body of a man along the Pajaro River levee, west of the bridge that connects the community of Pajaro to Watsonville.

The sheriff’s office was notified of the body just before 5 a.m. Thursday morning by someone walking near the levee, said spokesperson Andres Rosas. Monterey County detectives had not confirmed the identity of the man or cause of death, he said Friday. It’s unclear whether the person lived in the encampments along the levee.

This is the second body that has been discovered at the Pajaro River levee in the past two months. In April, the body of 36-year-old Watsonville resident Jesus Alfonso Duarte Figueroa was found buried near the same area of the levee. The two cases are unrelated, said Rosas.

Anyone with information that could be related to this incident is encouraged to contact Monterey County Sheriff’s Office at 831-755-3700. Information can be provided anonymously.
