Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has received a zoning application for a proposed project at 220 Lake Court in Aptos 95003. The proposal aims to establish a new two-bedroom vacation rental for short-term lodging, with stays limited to a maximum of thirty days. The property is situated approximately 430 feet northeast of the intersection of Lake Court and Venetian Road. To proceed, the project requires a vacation rental permit. Residents are encouraged to submit public comments on the application until August 8, with a decision expected on or after August 11. (view application)
     

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The building code violation at 719 Seacliff Dr, Aptos 95003-354, under case number NV25087, has been resolved. Initially cited on May 28, 2024, the violation involved the construction of a fence exceeding 6 feet in height along the front yard/property line. Following the issuance of a Notice and Order, the property owner has now addressed the issue and is required to pay assessed fees to the county.

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • Southbound lanes of Highway 1 in Capitola/Soquel are facing closures for roadwork. The closure will continue until August 29 at 6:30 a.m.
     

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Churchill & Beers at 10110 Soquel Dr, Aptos, passed a county health inspection on July 21 with no critical issues.
